Faux Citizen Group Distributes False Information

By Jeff Huff

A group called CPN Citizens for Tax Relief recently distributed an email to many residents.  The group is chaired by Greg Miller who is the husband of current city councilwoman, Jennifer Havercroft and co-chaired by Kevin Bruer, husband of current city council candidate Shelley Hamilton-Bruer.  Despite their group’s name, they are hardly a grass-roots citizen initiative.

The tax saving statistics cited in their email are completely inaccurate.  They compare what I actually achieved at one meeting with the Metro District to what Shul only hopes to accomplish in a campaign promise.  It is one thing to go around talking about tax relief, it is another to actually do it.

The remainder of my comment that they left out of their email is:

“This is only the first step I will take in lowering costs for residents. I will ask the board of the Master Association for a significant reduction in dues at the budget meeting next month. If elected, I will also review city expenditures and make prudent cuts where necessary. We need to make sure taxpayers are getting their money’s worth.”

It is possible to reduce the cost of government in CPN, but I won’t make pie-in-the-sky promises.  Nor will I enter into a race to see who can promise the biggest tax cut. Voters who fall for that trap will be sorely disappointed.

Huff Supports Charter Schools

By Jeff Huff

Recently, my opposition has misrepresented my position on charter schools. To set the record straight, I refer readers to my August 2008 post defending the American Academy charter school prior to the zoning hearing before city council.

At the time, I stated, For me, the District’s attempt to link the approval of the Lagae rezoning and the American Academy School to overcrowding in the District’s existing facilities is unpersuasive…Successful passage of this bond issue will help alleviate overcrowding in the public schools, not lobbying our representatives to deny private development.”

I support school choice because parents are uniquely qualified to determine the best educational alternative for their children. My own children attend 3rd and 5th grade at Timber Trail Elementary and 8th grade at Cherry Hills Christian.
